Wow, what a day we had on the Great Jurassic Coast Minis
Mouth 2 Mouth run. The day started with an early start
arriving at the Riviera Hotel in Weymouth before 8am. The
club members headed in for breakfast while visitors brewed
up in the car park. Everyone had arrived by 9:15 and we all
gathered for the welcome talk we headed off in convoy with
horns blearing and waves and smile from all that we passed.
Su led us out onto the main road and held up the traffic
while we all filed through, thanks Su.
We headed out along Weymouth sea
front and around the harbour side hooting as we went and out
towards our first port of call, Sidmouth. The journey was
fantastic, I think we all wore our hooters out as we hooted
and waved at everyone that we passed. We arrived at the
Norman Lockyer Observatory in Sidmouth an hour early and
were welcomed with tea and biscuits. It is a wonderful
location at the top of a huge hill above Sidmouth, if we had
had many more minis we would have struggled to fit in the
car park. After refreshments, a good rest and guided tours
of the observatory we headed on to Exmouth and down the hill
to test the brakes. The front few cars followed the route
plan but somehow the other 35 or so of us missed a turn and
made our own way, entering Exmouth at the eastern end of the
promenade. This turned out to be a good thing as we got to
cruise along the sea front to the cheers and waves from
everyone there. We all arrived at the Exmouth Rugby Club
together and filed onto the running track to park up and
head to the bar. We managed to hijack one mini along the way
when I pulled up next to it at traffic lights and shouted to
the female driver "Exmouth Rugby Club, bring your mini". She
looked very surprised but joined us anyway!
Thank you all for an amazing
day in great company and with great weather. Next year we
want to fill the running track.
