News Update 25/04/2012 Well what a blast the Easter egg hunt was. We had over 600 visitors and made many new friends. The whole weekend was manic with very little time to stop and chat with visitors. We would like to say a very big thank you to the small army of helpers and volunteers, especially the Weymouth Volunteer Bureau who worked tirelessly doing the BBQ and face painting. We are well into lambing now, our commercial sheep have lambed and the goats have had their kids. The Portland flock started lambing on Monday and all is going well. Our Facebook friends have clubbed together to buy us a webcam so friends can see the action live online. We had our first caesarean section on lambcam this morning with people watching online. Update 18/03/2012 The whole site is finished and ready to open on 1st April. The new barn is built and we are just about to start lambing in the next week or so. The flower beds have been planted by pupils from Royal Manor School and the area to the rear of the bungalow has been cleared for a future bunny area. We have eight pigs going off next week so get your pork orders in now. We now offer light refreshments and hot and cold drinks in our indoor play area. Update 01/02/2012 The former USAF building is almost finished
with a new kitchen, classroom, function room, workshop and IT suite.
Work will begin soon on constructing the new barn ready for lambing
in April. The old, rusty barbed wire fencing is being replaced with
safer and more aesthetically pleasing plain wire. We have new
miniature piglets and are expecting Bonny and Clive the Kune Kune
pigs to produce a litter around the start of May. Update 19/11/2011 We are now refurbishing the former USAF building for it to become our main centre of operations. This building will provide classrooms, kitchen, shower/toilet, IT suite, workshop, office, function room and coffee shop. The building is sound and we have electricity and water, the kitchen will be installed next week and about half of the rooms have now been painted. This compound is about an acre of very rough grass and scrub and is another big job to tackle. The verges on the road into the site have been cleared today and work on the gate house is continuing in earnest.
8th August 2011 - We would like to say a special thank you to all of our helpers who have made this project possible by helping with the move and the day to day running of the farm. We couldn't do it without you all. We moved to our new site at Portland Rotor during June 2011 and are now settled in. The site was derelict when we moved in and we are busy tidying up and making it ready for visitors. Click here to see pictures of the site before we moved in. So far we have tidied the site and buildings, installed fencing and water for the animals, installed a toilet and hand washing facilities and made the site safe for visitors and animals. We have replaced the broken windows in the buildings and created a staff room. The sheep were sheared last week and are looking good. The commercial lambs and sheep have learned to run up to the fence and call to passers-by for handfuls of grass, they are so tame it is crazy. This week we are installing more paddocks for the animals, which is great fun as there is only a thin layer of top soil on top of the rock. We still have a very long way to go before we can open full time to the public but we will get there.
